Job Title: Senior Mechanical Designer - HVAC      

Reports to: Virtual Design Construction Manager

Summary/Objective:

Senior Mechanical Designer - HVAC will help develop and facilitate designs related to commercial/industrial HVAC mechanical and process piping systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs initial investigations and observations of designs done by the engineers related to our contracted scope of work associated with specifications, drawings, codes, submittals, and other construction documentation
  • Initiate and prepare quality construction documentation such as RFI’s to clarify and/or recommend possible solutions for alternate construction options
  • Follows through with Quality Assurance & Quality Control measures for completeness and compliance with design specifications and codes
  • Provides an in-house technical resource for HVAC mechanical and Industrial Piping in regard to mechanical code, P&ID’s, specifications, and drawings
  • Works collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues to accomplish the objectives of the project
  • Manages multiple construction projects at a time
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • Associate's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering/Design with 12+ years of practical onboard detailing and design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a construction environment
  • Extensive knowledge regarding design related to commercial HVAC piping systems, including associated equipment and Industrial Process Piping
  • Experience with system layout, system sizing, including material and equipment selection
  • Must be proficient in 3D Modeling (Revit, Fabrication CAD MEP, and Navisworks is a plus) and MS Office products
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules and extended hours as needed including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours

Work Environment:

  • Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
  • Position may require visits to construction site

Physical Demands:

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines

Travel:

  • May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:

  • Experience working with MEP field construction
  • General knowledge of electrical system design
  • Prior military experience 
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
